Principal

Chulipuram
Sri Lanka
20th January 2005
Dear Mr. Nadarajah,
we are really sorry and full of consternation of
what has happened to your country and its people
by the Tsunami wave on 26th December
2004.
One of our pupils is Tamil (her parents come
from Jaffna/Trincomalee) who kindly arranged
your address to come into contact with you.
In respect of educational attainment our school
('Realschule', 800 pupils -10 to 16 years old -
and 47 teachers) lies somewhere between
'Hauptschule' (secondary modern) and a
'Gymnasium' (grammar school). The school leaving
certificate after year 10 is called
'Fachoberschulreife’ - roughly eqivalent to
GCSEs. Usually pupils go on to three years of
vocational training.
Dortmund, one of the biggest cities in Germany
(600.000 inh.), is situated in the agglomeration
area of Rhein-Ruhr with about 10 mio.
inhabitants.
After having read and watched the alarming
pieces of Tsunami news in the media we decided
to support a school and its pupils, teachers and
if necessary parents in Sri Lanka that were hit
by the Tsunami disaster.
We have got the idea of taking over some kind of
sponsorship to your school.
But what kind of support is needed?
We would be pleased about further information
concerning the situation and problems after the
Tsunami at your school and are looking forward
to sponsoring a project at your school (e..g. as
godparents for some of your pupils, financial
support?). We are open to all kinds of
suggestions.

We hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely
